Faithful to its interdisciplinary tradition, the ENS intends to develop an ambitious African Studies programme in the coming months, grounded In Humanities, of which this “Olivier Legrain Sciences and Society lecture” shall be the foundation stone.
Without limiting African Studies to francophone literature, geography or international relations, the École Normale benefits from a large community of researchers and students able to develop these studies in a plurality of complementary fields. This historical strength of the ENS is accompanied by a growing willingness of the students to be trained in African Studies.
Over the years, what would be an interdisciplinary module in African Studies will gradually become a degree, in partnership with a range of actors, such as the Agence française de développement (French Development Agency), and African institutions.
These academic and scientific ambitions are also coupled with voluntarist actions by the Department of International Relations of the ENS in order to develop its
partnerships with African universities.
